At Angela Green Skin Care, I believe that skincare isn’t just about what’s on the surface— it’s about how you feel in your skin, too. For teens and young adults, especially those navigating the pressures of college, social media, and new levels of independence, facials can be more than just a luxury. They’re a smart step in building long-term skin health and supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.
This is my son, Derrick. He will begin his Junior year of college this fall. I became a licensed Esthetician about a year before he was born. He has grown up understanding the importance of self-care, exercise, regulating his emotional state and overall balance. In fact, he often reminds me to be patient and relax!
1. Hormones, Habits & Skin Changes
Between the ages of 12 and 25, their skin is going through some serious shifts:
Hormonal fluctuations can lead to breakouts, excess oil, and irritation.
Late nights, stress eating, and inconsistent skincare routines can all contribute to dull, congested, or inflamed skin.
Makeup use, sweat from sports, and dorm life can easily lead to clogged pores and bacteria buildup.
Facials help by:

Deep cleansing and exfoliating without harsh over-the-counter products
Unclogging pores and preventing acne scarring
Hydrating the skin for better barrier function
Introduction to products and routines that actually work for their skin
And best of all? Results are visible. Many of our younger clients leave with:
Reduced redness and breakouts
Smaller-looking pores
A smoother, more radiant glow
Confidence without filters
2. Regulating the Nervous System in a Digital World
Social media has completely reshaped the way young people experience themselves. While it can be a space for inspiration and connection, it’s also a source of constant comparison and overstimulation.
Scrolling for hours a day, staring at screens late into the night, and measuring worth based on likes or follows takes a toll on the nervous system, leading to:
Increased anxiety or stress
Sleep disruption
A dysregulated sense of self
Hormonal imbalances
Facials offer a digital detox.

During a facial, the parasympathetic nervous system (your “rest and digest” mode) is activated through:
Gentle massage techniques
Aromatherapy and soothing music
Intentional breathing and stillness
This kind of self-care helps:
Reduce cortisol (the stress hormone)
Improve sleep and focus
Reconnect teens and young adults to their bodies in a positive, nonjudgmental way
3. The Habit of Self-Care
Facials teach young adults something deeper than just skincare:
Consistency over perfection
Preventative care over panic treatments
Self-respect through healthy rituals
When I work with teen and college-aged clients at Angela Green Skin Care, we’re not just giving them clearer skin—we’re helping them build routines that support who they are becoming.
I offer in-person or virtual consultations to help make skincare accessible for young adults. I am here to guide you every step of the way.
