September Success Tips for Estheticians to Shift Your Business this Fall

As we transition from the summer heat into the crisp, refreshing days of fall, September presents a perfect opportunity to reassess, refresh, and rejuvenate your esthetician practice. Whether you’re an experienced professional or new to the industry, here are some key pieces of advice to help you thrive this month and beyond.

1. Revamp Your Offerings

September is the ideal time to review your service menu to reflect evolving trends that address the needs of your client's skin. Does the client have acne as a condition or has the skin barrier function been compromised resulting in breakouts? Consider introducing services that focus on both the skin type: Dry, Oily, Sensitive, Combination or Mature skin AND the skin condition: Dry, Acne, Sensitized and breakouts.

Tip: Create a Consultation Service that begins with skin analysis to identify the client's skin type and skin condition. Provide the client with a Treatment Plan in writing or as a follow up by e-mail with products and scheduled treatments.

2. Promote Fall Skincare Products

Along with your services, your retail offerings should also shift to accommodate the change in season. Introduce products that help to maintain moisture, protect against environmental stressors, and repair any summer skin damage.

Tip: Feature a “Fall Skin Essentials” kit that clients can purchase to maintain their skin between appointments. Include a gentle cleanser, a hydrating serum, a rich moisturizer, and a nourishing lip balm.

3. Create Educational Content

Clients are always looking for advice on how to take care of their skin, especially during seasonal transitions. Use your blog, social media, and email newsletters to provide valuable information on recommended changes to transition from summer to fall skincare routines.

Tip: Write a blog post or create an Instagram carousel on "How to Transition Your Skincare from Summer to Fall," . Offer tips on weather changes, adjusting routines, ingredients to look for and common skincare concerns in cooler weather.

4. Focus on Client Retention

As we move into the latter part of the year, it’s important to focus on retaining your current clients. Back-to-school, year end work responsibilities and weather changes takes the focus on self- care. Reach out to them with personalized emails or texts, reminding them of the benefits of regular treatments, use of skin care products at home and encouraging them to book their next appointment.

Tip: Introduce a subscription program or offer a small discount on same day appointments to incentivize clients to continue their skincare regimen with you.

5. Mind Your Self-Care

Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself. The change in season can bring about changes in your own skin. Make sure you’re practicing what you preach! Follow a solid skincare routine, eat well, and get enough rest. A healthy Esthetician is the best version of themselves for their clients.

Tip: Schedule a monthly self-care appointment for yourself, whether it's a massage, a facial, or simply a day off to recharge.

Conclusion

September is a month of transition, not just for nature, but for you and your esthetics business as well. By focusing on the SHIFT, engaging with your clients, and reviewing what is working and what is not, you can set the stage for a successful year end. Embrace the changes, and watch your skin care business flourish as you help your clients navigate the transition to support their self-care goals.
