National Wellness Month: Who Takes Care of the Esthetician?

As estheticians, we spend our days taking care of everyone else.

We listen to our clients. We calm their nervous systems. We celebrate their progress. We help them feel confident in their own skin.

But when was the last time you asked yourself:

Make time to relax
Make time to relax

Who’s taking care of me?

August is National Wellness Month, and I think it’s an important reminder that wellness isn’t just something we recommend to our clients. Wellness is something we deserve too.

Wellness Is Part of Professional Success

Our work is physically demanding. We’re on our feet for hours, using repetitive hand movements, managing busy schedules, and carrying the emotional energy that clients often bring into the treatment room.

Add the responsibilities of running a business, keeping up with continuing education, marketing on social media, and managing finances, and it’s easy to see how burnout can quietly become the norm. Building a successful career shouldn’t require sacrificing your health.

Redefining Success

For a long time, our industry measured success by a full appointment book or a six-figure revenue goal. Those things can certainly be part of success.

But what if success also looked like:

  • Having energy at the end of the day.

  • Taking days off without guilt.

  • Building healthy financial habits.

  • Continuing to learn and grow.

  • Having time for family, hobbies, and rest.

  • Loving the profession for decades—not just a few years.

That’s the kind of career many of us are truly seeking.

A New Direction for The Esthetician Collective

As I continue to grow personally and professionally, I’ve been reflecting on what this community needs most.

Going forward, you’ll see more conversations about wellness, career longevity, professional growth, and building a life that supports your career—not just the other way around.

We’ll still talk about skin care and the esthetics industry, but we’ll also make space for the person behind the treatment table.

Because taking care of yourself isn’t separate from taking care of your clients.

It’s what makes it possible.

This month, ask yourself one simple question:

What is one thing I can do this week that supports my own well-being?

Maybe it’s stretching between appointments.

Maybe it’s eating lunch away from your treatment room.

Maybe it’s setting a boundary with your schedule.

Or maybe it’s simply giving yourself permission to rest.

Whatever it is, start there.

The clients will always benefit from an esthetician who is healthy, present, and well.

And so will you.

Be well!
